[Movie] The Greatest Showman

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN
Genre: Drama, Musical & Performing Arts
Directed by: Michael Gracey
Written by: Jenny Bicks, Bill Condon
Release date: December 8, 2017 (Indonesia)
Production house: Chernin Entertainment, Seed Productions, TSG Entertainment
Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes.

I must say that this movie is the greatest show, INDEED. I feel so much joy watching the movie. The story, the characters, and especially the music, everything got me amazed! No wonder everyone talks about this movie (people posting about this movie on instagram stories, share the songs and reviews all over my timeline lol). I've always loved musical movies, either it's animated or not (this is also why I love all Disney movies). Although some people find it annoying, I love movies which the characters sing almost all the time (dikit-dikit nyanyi).

The movie tells a story about P. T. Barnum (Hugh Jackman), a man who's such a risk taker in his life. He lives a modest life with her wife Charity Barnum (Michelle Williams) and both of his daughters. Despite being responsible to his family living, he still takes a big risk when he tries to make his dreams come true when he bought a museum from a loan. He wants to own a show, and make money from it. Then he searches for "freaks" to serve as performers for his museum. This attracts a large audience, despite protests and poor reviews. As his show business gets better, he met Phillip Carlyle (Zac Efron), someone who he knows could bring his reputation amongst the upper class. They worked together and Barnum's American Museum starts to get known by countries. But Barnum never gets enough of it, until things happens and he finally find out how to stop.

The plot is quick but it doesn't rush. This movie contains life lessons that often happens in our lives, and wrap it beautifully in songs; never gets enough of what we already have (Never Enough), feels different and gets ignored by people (This is Me), but also complicated love (Rewrite The Stars) and unconditional love (Tightrope).

Songs in this movie gives me chills! Even I got chills already during "The Greatest Show", the very first song that begin the movie. The way they sing it makes me believe that the show they're playing is really the greatest show! There are 11 songs i n the movie, and I love each of them. The song I love the most is Tightrope. It's sang by Michelle Williams, the cast of Charity Barnum, and tells about Charity's feeling as the wife of P. T. Barnum, the risk taker. I'm so touched by how much she loves him that she 'risk it all' for the life they choose. Yeah, despite the personality Barnum has, Charity stays with him, believes in his husband's dream, and enjoy everything that comes with it. For her, living with Barnum is beautiful, and so worth it. This is so wonderful for me: when you can make the decision to leave the 'better things' in life just to be with the one you love. Can you tell how beautiful her heart is?? *cries*

I highly recommend this movie, especially for those who loves musical movies. To be honest, I really want to watch this again in the cinema because I'm in love with this movie and of course because I know that it'll be sooooo worth it!!

[Movie] Spider-Man: Homecoming

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING
Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
Directed by: Jon Watts
Written by: Jon Watts, John Francis Daley, Jonathan M. Goldstein
Release date: July 5, 2017 (Indonesia)
Production house: Marvel Studios, Columbia Pictures, Pascal Pictures
Duration: 2 hours 13 mins.

To be honest, Spiderman is one of my favorite superhero character. Why? I think it's must because he's so playful and funny. He talks a lot during fights and his carelessness is sooo amusing. Despite that, he's a clever student! I like that. I like how he can keep up his scores mostly because of his brilliant brain. A nerd that is actually a talkative and lovable person! Such my type :))))))

Properly presenting Tom Holland as the brand new Spiderman 3.0, I think Marvel has done a great job in this movie! Tom Holland himself is an easy-going and humorous person, which makes his personality suits Spiderman's character. Plus, he's cute!! Although I really feel like didn't had enough of Andrew Garfield as the Spiderman 2.0...:( Andrew is a great actor and good-looking and cute and he makes a wonderful couple with Emma Stone! Well, in short, the movie Spider-Man: Homecoming tells a story about the young Peter Parker (15 years old!) who would give his all to be a part of the Avengers. The time setting is a few months after the 'civil war' between Iron-Man and Captain America in the movie Captain America: Civil War. Peter was recruited into Iron-Man's team, and since then, Peter always tries his best to draw Tony's attention and secretly wishes to join the Avengers.

I love the fact that Tony Stark is in the movie! I've always liked his arrogant character (gaya orang kaya sombong xD). And, oh yeah, I was #TeamIronMan back then when the Civil War movie was booming. I thought I have to wait for Captain America's next movie for more of Stark, but thanks Marvel for letting me to watch him in Spider-Man's movie. Although he's arrogant and seems ignorant, he is 'always there' for Peter. When Peter's in trouble, he will (or his robots will) be there to help. He's such a responsible parent lol xD

And about Aunt May...? Well... We've always enjoyed Spider-Man movies with our loving old lady Aunt May, but no, no old ladies this time. In this movie, it's a hot attractive woman as Aunt May. Yes, it's Marisa Tomei in the house! Despite the very different appearance, he's still a loving auntie to Peter. And I was totally surprised when I find out that Marisa Tomei is actually 52 years old. I mean, wow, WOW. I'm totally impressed with how she keeps up her youth xD she's so pretty (and so attractive) for a 50 y.o woman!

This time, Spider-Man's enemy is a man in a robotic bird costume. It's Vulture. This man is actually just a man who loves his family and wants his family to be happy... but he picked the wrong way to actualize it. I can't tell much about this movie because I'm so sure if I talk more I'm about to spoil the whole movie lol. So, if you want to find out Vulture's true identity, or who's Peter's girlfriend now, or whatever you want to know, go watch it to the cinemas!

[Movie] La La Land

LA LA LAND
Genre: Comedy, Drama, Musical, Romance
Directed by: Damien Chazelle
Written by: Damien Chazelle
Release date: December 25, 2016 (USA)
Production house: Black Label Media, Gilbert Films, Impostor Pictures
Duration: 2 hours 8 mins.

Here's to the most overrated movie of 2016. So sorry for those who hyped a lot to La La Land, but for me, this movie is so overrated! My first impression to this movie was just like everyone else's! I really thought this movie gonna be very good since it looks like that everyone love it! Plus, I've always liked Emma Stone since I watched The Amazing Spiderman (and omg how i love her relationship with Andrew Garfield!!). But, boom. My expectation was shattered. La La Land didn't impress me as much as I hoped it might be.

I watched the movie with my friends. We picked this movie for that reason we talked about: it looks like that everyone love it. That's all. Turns out, the first-half of the movie was really boring, and I can't help but to check out the rating of this movie on IMDb right on my seat during the movie. And I was really surprised that the rating is 8.8! I was like 'wuuuuuuuuuut' and... well, tried to just enjoy the movie. Then, as the movie finished, I can say that this movie is good, but not 'that' good. The ideas they're trying to tell is really good; about people trying to reach for their dreams and how dreams don't just magically come true like we usually seen in movies. But for me, the beginning is too boring and a bit weird. I don't like the idea to begin a movie with a bunch of strangers dancing and singing together in a middle of traffic jam... The point is, as the beginning of the movie didn't get my attention, it makes me lost curiousity to continue watching the movie. I can say, if I watch this movie online and not in the cinema, I might never watch this movie until the end.

Other than that, let's talk about the good things. I really liked the relationship between Mia (Emma Stone) and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling). They look so cute together, and their relationship development is so lovely! My favorite part is when Mia just sent a voice message to Seb, telling how she misses him, but it turns out that Seb's at home, preparing a dinner for two (too bad the dinner ended with a fight). Actually, I might be very touched by this movie if (once again) the beginning wasn't so boring... Because I know that they loved each other so much. Seb got a job that he doesn't really like for Mia (that her parents want a 'good man' to be with Mia), and it's so... Ugh. Please find me someone like this to be my future husband lol.

The songs are so geeeeewd! My favorite is Audition (The Fools Who Dream) by Emma Stone and City of Stars by Ryan Gosling. Both are very good, and it's so awesome that both main actors/actress who sings the songs. A Lovely Night is great too, as it's the song that comes along with the iconic dance by Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. To be honest, this dance was also a reason I watched La La Land. It's so cute and entertaining!

Rate: 6.8/10
but 8.8/10 for the songs! :)

[Movie] Moana

MOANA
Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy, Family, Fantasy, Musical
Directed by: Ron Clements, Don Hall
Written by: Jared Bush, Ron Clements
Release date: November 25, 2016 (Indonesia)
Production house: Walt Disney Animation Studios, Walt Disney Pictures
Duration: 1 hour 47 min.

I hope it's not too late to review this movie, my bad that I drafted this post and forgot to post it. Yup, I watched Moana a few weeks ago with my family and it was beyond my expectation. It was so good! Moana got me enchanted just like Disney's previous movies, Zootopia and Frozen (I'm so excited that they say they're going to make a sequel for Frozen!). Disney always know how to steal my heart. The animation, the story, the music! I love them all. And yes, Moana's main soundtrack, How Far I'll Go, just ranked top on my playlist now. Auli'i (the voice actress of Moana) is really a good singer and she looks just like Moana in real life!

The movie begins a thousand years before. The island goddess Te Fiti, she created all the islands and the life that lives on them thanks to the power of her heart that forms as a green pebble. But her heart was stolen by Maui, a shapeshifting demigod, who believes if he has the heart of Te Fiti, he might gain a power of creating life to the humans. When he was about to escape, a gigantic lava monster named Te Ka attacks him, losing the pebble in the vast ocean. Without Te Fiti, all of the Pacific Islands will be left to rot away by a darkness spreading across the ocean. The heart of Te Fiti must be restored, and who else is responsible to do that except Maui? So, Moana, encouraged by her grandmother, left the island to find Maui and force him to return the heart of Te Fiti.

Little Moana is really cute, right!? She also has the courage and kindness that make ocean choose her. And Moana, unlike other Disney princesses, don't need any prince in the movie. The movie has no romance, yet still able to touch your heart with all the love inside. But talking about Moana as a Disney princess, Moana herself kept on denying that she's not a princess, but Maui says: "If you wear a dress and has an animal sidekick, you're a princess." which somehow addressed to Moana with Heihei/Pua.

I really love Moana and Maui's love-hate relationship! At first, Maui keeps on refusing to restore the heart of Te Fiti and throw Moana to the ocean all the time. But thanks to the ocean, Moana always get back on the boat. But after Maui get back his fishhook from Tamatoa, the enormous crab that loves shiny objects, Maui finally accepted Moana's request to restore the heart of Te Fiti, and their relationship grown stronger. He taught Moana how to sail and everything. I think they suit best as brother and sister, since they fight over little things and get along easily, so cute!

And for the animal sidekicks... of course it's Pua the pig and Heihei the rooster. Pua must be the cutest pig I ever seen in Disney movie history. His big ears really make the face much cuter. I hoped he would appear more often in the movie when I first seen him in the beginning of the movie, but it turns out that Heihei that become the main sidekick lol. If Pua is the cutest pig, then Heihei... must be the stupidest rooster lol. He even don't know which one's food and which one's not! But that's what makes him special in the movie, right? Because he always bring laughter to us xD

One of best parts of the movie is the main soundtrack, of course! My favorite is How Far I'll Go (Moana) and You're Welcome (Maui). Thanks to this movie, now I know that Dwayne Johnson can sing very well! It's surprising knowing such guy can sing that good for Disney! This is the second time I adored Disney musical movie so much after Frozen. Overall, Moana is a movie that I can watch over and over again without getting bored. At first I didn't think it would be this great, so I'm so happy that it's really worth it!
